Whitby

Whitby is a town in Durham Region, located to the east of Toronto. It is situated between Ajax to the west and Oshawa to the east and has a long shoreline on Lake Ontario. Having grown from a small town to one of the larger towns in the GTA, it still retains some of the small town character that made it attractive to many buyers.

Demand for real estate in Whitby has been growing in recent years thanks to its great commuting options. Highway 401 runs through the southern part of the town, Highway 412 runs long its western edge and Highway 407 runs through the northern, rural areas of the town. In addition to this, Whitby has a GO train station on the Lakeshore East line which offers services to downtown Toronto that take around 55 minutes and stop in Pickering and various Toronto locations along the way.

The majority of homes in Whitby are low-rise, single-family homes, with a few high-rise condominium buildings located close to highways and the train station. The large supply of detached homes at prices low than Toronto is another of the reasons that has drawn buyers to Whitby real estate, especially families looking to grow. That has reduced supply somewhat but fortunately there are lots of new home developments in Whitby that are planned in order to meet the demand.

Among the new developments, there are lots of new townhomes developments and new detached developments. Taking advantage of the large amount of space, developers have built larger new homes than might be found in Toronto, which are often ideal for growing families. With plenty more room to grow within the town boundaries, there are likely to be more new townhomes in Whitby in the near future.
